Steven Hines

August 2, 1953 — April 9, 2022

Steven Phillip Hines passed away unexpectedly on April 09, 2022.

Steven was born August 02, 1953 to Mary E. and Wilbur Charles Hines in Sullivan, Indiana. He was the third of their four children.  His family moved to Florida when he was two, where he had happy memories of fishing, harvesting oysters, hunting in the swamps, and working in his family's garden.

Steven joined the Navy in 1974.  Although he served on several ships, his longest service time was on the USS Tarawa (LHA-1).  He was proud to be an original Plankowner when ship was commissioned in 1976. While ship was in Long Beach, Calfornia, Steven met JoAnne Wheeler.  They married in 1978, beginning their forty-four year advenure together.

After leaving the Navy, Steven went to work at Pacific Gas & Electric in Northern California where he worked for 30 years. He worked as an Operator and a commercial truck driver but was most fulfilled with completing the Mechanic/Rigger Apprenticeship.

Steven was preceded in death by his mother, father, older sister, Nancy Harmeson and his much loved brother-in-law, Dean Harmeson.

Steven is survived by his wife, JoAnne; his older brother William Hines; younger sister Judy Rego; brother-law Terry Tallos, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Throuhgout most of Steven's life, he had at least one four-legged canine companion by his side.  The last and most loved was Patches.  As there is no service planned, in lieu of flowers, please make any donations to your local SPCA, Humane Society or dog rescue, in the names of Steven Hines and Patches.

Although Steven was in Hamlin a short four years (and most of that during times of quarantine) , he appreciated friends, including, but not limited to, JR Mendoza and his wife, Scott Neff and his wife, and Lynn Brechtbill.
