Shelton Marshall

January 22, 1952 ~ February 6, 2021 (age 69)

Shelton Marshall, beloved husband and father passed away peacefully surrounded by the ones he laughed with, lived for, and loved on Saturday, February 6, 2021. A celebration of life will be Saturday, February 13, 2021 at First Baptist Church Hamlin, Texas with Rev. Danny Edmond. Interment at Hamlin Cemetery under the direction of Adams-Foster-Ray Funeral Home. Family will receive friends for visitation Friday, February 12, 2021 from 6:00pm – 7:00pm at the funeral home.

Shelton Don “Big Dee” Marshall was born on January 22, 1952 to John Charles Marshall, Sr. and Johnnie B. (Green) Marshall in Rotan, Texas. Shelton was a lifelong resident of Hamlin and member of Oak Grove Baptist Church having been baptized in 1975.

Shelton attended Oscar DePriest School and Hamlin High School, entering the workforce after high school as a technician at Goodyear. After working there a short time, Shelton began working as a pumper in the oilfield. Shelton spent more than 40 years in the oilfield, working for several oil and gas companies, retiring in 2020. Shelton was always a busy man, working in the oilfield while co-owning a bbq restaurant and farming all at the same time.

Shelton always had a smile on his face, a joke or funny story to tell or ready to play a prank on someone. He never met a stranger; he could have a conversation with anyone about anything. Always the kindhearted man, he would do anything to help anyone in need without hesitation even stopping to help random people stranded or hitchhiking on the roadway.

Shelton enjoyed spending time with his family at home and on vacation. He especially loved to throw something on the pit, usually a slab of ribs with homemade bbq sauce when he knew his kids and grandkids were coming to visit. The best times were those spent with his family just sitting around visiting after a meal at home, fishing, playing dominoes, or winning big at any casino!

As his grandchildren and great grandchildren began participating in various activities, you could always find he and Alice there to support whatever they were involved in, sometimes making several trips in different directions in a week to make sure they never missed a moment.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife and best friend for 48 years, Alice; son Shelton Jr. and wife Sandy of Abilene; daughter Shayla and husband David of Breckenridge; grandchildren Michael, Bridgett, Tiffany, Brandon, and Jaydon; great grandchildren Amara, Braden, and Javeion; brother Wayne Marshall of Rosharon; sister Mary Ann Coleman of Abilene; and numerous relatives and friends.

Shelton was preceded in death by his parents, sisters May June Marshall, Eddie May Jeffery, Faye Jean McGee, and Bonnie Kay Jackson; brothers Larry Marshall and John Charles Marshall, Jr.

A special thank you to Dr. Al, Dr. Nancy, Dr. Sunkavalli, and Dr. White for taking such good care of Shelton over the years.  Also, a special thanks to all the staff at Hendrick Medical Center and Chosen.
