Hamlin

Mary Shalane Minor, 51, of Hamlin passed away on April 24, 2023. Services will be 11 am Saturday, April 29, 2023 at the Hamlin First Baptist Church. A visitation will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023 at Adams-Foster-Ray Funeral Home from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm.

Mary Shalane Minor, loving daughter, sister, aunt, niece and friend was called home by our heavenly father on April 24th 2023 in Abilene Texas surrounded by family. Mary was born on April 12th, 1972 to Ruby Cooper and Robert Bolden at Hamlin Memorial Hospital.

Mary attended Hamlin throughout her life and graduated from Hamlin High School in 1991. She participated in basketball, band, and other school activities. She enjoyed cooking and having large family meals together. Mary loved children and served as a caregiver for many years of her life. In addition to her love of children, Mary always had a passion for cosmetics and hair, leading her to get her barber’s license. She was a hard worker and anything she wanted in life she worked hard to obtain. She was a lifetime member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where she was baptized and gave her life to Christ.

To anyone who has ever met Mary, her soul radiated love wherever she went. She was always willing to listen when anyone needed her words of wisdom and be the shoulder when you needed one to cry on. She was always the life of the party and loved being around her family and friends. Family is the most important thing she cherished in this life. She loves her family more than anything and she expressed that deep love to all in her final moments.

Her cancer battle started in 2010, but with her unwavering ability to see the best in everything she never let cancer break her spirit or take her smile away. She continued to do the things she loved and would never allow her sickness to break her faith nor give up hope. As a woman of God, she expressed daily her life belonged to our heavenly father. She loves gospel music and dedicated her life to Christ. She leaves behind many children although she didn't have kids of her own. Kids loved Mary and Mary loved kids and no matter what, she always managed to have a special relationship with everyone she met. Not a lot of people know this, but she has actually delivered her niece on her couch at home. She was simply that amazing. In her last days God allowed Mary to say goodbye to all those who she loved and all those that love her. She was a one in a lifetime spirit with a love so unconditional and pure. Her heart was made of gold.

Left to cherish her memories are her mother; Ruby Cooper; siblings, Charles Cooper, Darryl Bolden, Robert Bolden Jr., Gwen Cooper, Bruce Cooper, Darryl Cooper, Angela Cooper, and Roman Johnson; an abundance of nieces and nephews some whom are like her own children, and by many friends and relatives that loved her dearly.

She is the definition of a warrior. She was all about Cancer research, and we want to remember her for her strength and courage to never give up, complain and always keep our faith on God. Spread your wings our sweet Angel. May She sleep in eternity.
