Lois Acklin

December 18, 1927 — February 22, 2022

Hamlin

Lois Louise Acklin, 94, of Hamlin, Texas passed away peacefully on February 22, 2022. She was born December 18, 1927 to Clovis and Elsie Williams in Montezuma Wells, Arizona. Lois grew up in many states including Texas, Arizona, Illinois and Arkansas while her father worked for the Santa Fe Railroad. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior when she was a young child and was baptized in the Baptist church in Arkansas where her grandfather was a pastor. Her family settled in the Hamlin area when she was a teenager where she enjoyed roller skating and playing baseball in McCaulley, like many other women, during World War II.  It was during this time that she caught the eye of the love of her life, Dallas Acklin, while roller skating. Soon after seeing her roller skating, he followed her throughout the Crow Brother’s Grocery store on main street. He followed her to the car and asked her on a date. Without any hesitation she said yes, and when he walked off she turned to her mother and told her she was going to marry that boy. On October 8, 1948 Dallas and Lois married in Anson, Texas with both of their mothers as witnesses. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Foreign Wars. During their 74 years together they raised five children, two girls and three boys. Once their children were raised and gone they picked up the hobby of dancing. They continued dancing almost weekly until COVID hit in the spring of 2020. Lois spent 75 years of her life caring for her children, grandchildren and even a few of her great-grandchildren. Mamaw was lovingly adored by all of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Clovis and Elsie Williams. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Clovis Junior Williams and Jack Williams and two sisters, Cloreen Fugate and Barbara Jean Dunn.

Survivors include her loving husband of 74 years, Dallas Acklin; five children, Jeanne Stubblefield (Robert), Lana Loyd (Barry), Dee Acklin (Judy), Andy Acklin (Sondra) and Richard Acklin; ten grandchildren, Danna Jenkins, Jori VanCleave (Mason), Laurie McKay (Steve), Bobby Stubblefield, Mike Stubblefield, Tim Weaver, Josh Loyd (Debby), Deidre Baker (Scott), Brittany Arce (Leroy), and Autumn Acklin, Fourteen great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren, one sister Pauline Pittcox and many nieces and nephews.
