Jerry Cooper

July 2, 1946 — May 25, 2021

Jerry Cooper passed away quietly and peacefully on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, in Hamlin. At his request there will be no memorial service and his body will be cremated. Finally, he will be remembered in the family cemetery, known as Gyp Springs Cemetery, in Fisher County, Texas, northwest of Hamlin.

Jerry Roy Cooper was born on July 2, 1946 in Rotan, Texas, and was the son of the late Roy Cooper and Edna Willis Cooper. He is survived by two brothers, Billy Don (Linda), and Joe Wayne (Retha) Cooper, nieces and nephews, Dave Byerly, Dan Byerly, Danna Cooper Jenkins, Jori Cooper VanCleave, Terry Wayne Cooper, Billy Roy Cooper, and Bucky Joe Cooper, and their spouses, and twenty-one great nieces and nephews and many great great nieces and nephews, two uncles, Jeff Willis and Franklin Willis, as well as many special friends in Texas and New York.

Jerry had a career in marketing that eventually led to women’s high fashion. At the height of his career, he worked for an international fashion designer group as Vice President in Charge of Marketing in the United States. The job took him to places around the world where the rich and famous gathered. He enjoyed knowing and entertaining heads of state, a First Lady of the United States, wives of ambassadors, political figures, movie stars, and others in that elite circle.

He made regular trips to the fashion runway shows in Paris and London, later producing runway shows and trunk shows across the United States. He made many lifetime friends during that period of his life.

While life took Jerry many places, he always called Hamlin his home. Jerry was a member of First Baptist Church, Hamlin. He will be missed by the people who knew and loved him, but what great memories he leaves behind.
