Earnest Scott

September 6, 1953 — February 14, 2021

Earnest Jefferson (Jeff) Scott, 67, of Arlington, and formerly of Levelland, Texas passed away Sunday, February 14th, 2021, at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth.

Jeff was born September 6, 1953 in Lubbock, Texas to Bill and Essie (Jarrett) Scott.  He spent his early life in Lubbock and graduated from Monterey High School in 1972.  Jeff met his wife Cindy in Levelland, and they were married on February 26, 1994.

Jeff believed that if you were going to put your hand to something, you better give it 110% effort, or keep your hands off of it.  He wanted the things his hands touched to be the best quality possible.  In fact, he spent his entire career working with his hands.  For a season his hands built homes, cabinets, or other fine furnishings with his dad, brothers, and sons in their family business.  In another season, his hands were part of rescue efforts, going up the ranks with the Levelland Fire Department.   Those same hands cared for livestock and ranch needs during his time spent as a Cowboy/Hand for the Post Montgomery Double U Ranch.  The later seasons of his work life were spent as a construction superintendent for numerous hotel and restaurant chains.

Jeff was an avid NASCAR fan.  As was his nature, he only cheered for the “classic” drivers.  In fact, a large part of his adult life was spent with his hands around the steering wheel of a race car,  #67 or #84jr,  making his way around turn 4 toward that checkered flag at dirt tracks across Texas and New Mexico.

Not only was he good with his hands, he had the perfect voice for classic country music….and he would be quick to tell you what and who classic country music included…. he taught himself how to play the guitar, and for a season of his life those hands and that voice could be found strumming and singing with his band at local venues around town.  Out of all of the fans that listened to his music, his family remained his greatest audience who never tired of listening to him play and sing.

Of all the places that his hands touched, the most important fingerprints he left were on the lives of his family and friends.  Some of his favorite times were spent at the lake, with his hands on the wheel of a golf cart or boat, teaching life lessons or giving advice to his kids and grandkids.  Some lessons were hard to learn, but if Jeff loved you, he loved fiercely, with his whole heart; you never had to question where you stood with him.

He is survived by his wife Cindy of Arlington; sister Jan Anderson and husband Frank of Whitharral, brother Joe Scott and wife Cathy of Lubbock, and sister Karen Daniel of Levelland; daughter Jennifer Cardenas and husband Michael of Lubbock, and three sons, Cody and wife Shelle Scott of Jayton, Jimmy and wife Jade Thompson of Huntington, and Justin and wife Jami Thompson of Paris; 14 grandchildren, Morgan, Tripp, Tucker, and Maci Scott, Jason (wife Bre) and Taytum Cardenas, Asher, Sage, Jeb, Levi, and Canaan Thompson, and Jace, Julia, and Jared Thompson; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Essie, and two brothers, Billie Steve Scott and wife Sharlett and Jerry Lynn Scott.
