Earl Boatright

June 20, 1943 — January 19, 2017

EARL WAYNE BOATRIGHT, 73, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2017, at his home in Hamlin.
Born June 20, 1943, in Anson, Texas, Wayne was the son of Nettie Lou (Story) and Elmer Woodrow "Woody" Boatright. He graduated from Hamlin High School in the class of 1961 and attended Texas Tech University, where he received a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree. Wayne served four years in the United States Air Force as a Russian Linguist, then worked for many years for the United States Department of Defense. After leaving the department of defense, he worked as a regional CFO for Toyota, in the Florida Department of Insurance's Fraud Division, and as a consultant for insurance companies. Wayne moved back to Hamlin in 2009, and married Londa Lane Cavitt on April 14, 2011, in Anson, Texas.
Wayne wrote for the Hamlin Herald as a reporter and columnist for many years. He had the gift of gab, and could speak at length on many subjects in multiple languages. Wayne spoke fluent Russian and Spanish as a result of his service in the Air Force and Department of Defense. In his spare time, Wayne enjoyed playing golf, fishing, doing crossword puzzles, and playing word games. He was a longtime member of the Hamlin Rotary Club. Wayne knew everything there was to know about doo-wop music, and could recall songs, bands, and band members.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Nettie and Woody Boatright; and two brothers, Travis Gene Boatright and Jimmie Douglas Boatright.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Londa Boatright of Hamlin; three sons, Todd Boatright (Nicola) of Maine, Bren Allen (Toni) of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, and Bradley (Lori) of Ingleside; three daughters, Natalie Boatright of Florida, Mishie Davis of Lubbock, Lori Deen of Fritch, and Tashi Molinar of Amarillo; one sister, Patsy Lujan of Hamlin; thirteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
