Cecil "Pinky" Sellers Jr.

Cecil Lee “Pinky” Sellers, Jr, 78, of Lubbock died January 18, 2022.

Visitation for Pinky will be held at Adams-Foster-Ray Funeral Home Chapel, 505 NW 5th St, in Hamlin, TX on Sunday, January 23rd, starting at 12:30 p.m. with gravesite service following at 2:00 p.m. in Hamlin Memorial Cemetery.

Pinky was born March 18, 1943, in Jacksonville, FL to Cecil and Clara Sellers. When Pinky was a child, the family moved to Hamlin, TX where his father worked in and eventually purchased the family business, Sellers Cattle Co. It was here that Pinky, his father, and younger brother Charlie worked together in serving cattle buying communities throughout the United States and Mexico. As a Texas cattle family, the Sellers have been life-long members of the Texas Cattle Feeders Association (TCFA) since its inception in 1967.

In 1961, Pinky graduated from Hamlin High School and enrolled in The University of North Texas to pursue a degree in business. After graduating from UNT, Pinky moved to Dallas before moving back home to Hamlin and then settling in Sweetwater, TX. In Sweetwater, Pinky managed and operated the Sweetwater Livestock Auction with the Sellers family. In 1984, after the sale of Sweetwater Livestock Auction, Pinky began work in the banking industry as a loan officer for farmers and ranchers. After spending most of his life in Texas, Pinky moved to Clovis, NM, where he continued to assist the farmers and ranchers of the South Plains.  Following many years in banking, Pinky returned to his roots in the cattle business where he continued to buy, sell, and trade for the remainder of his life.

Throughout his life, Pinky never knew a stranger. Wherever he went, he easily struck up conversations with those around him asking them about who they were, where they were from, and how they were doing. He was a people person in the truest sense. In return for getting to know those around him, he regaled people with the tales of his own childhood and adventures with his family. He was a consummate storyteller and kept those times with friends and family close to his heart. It is through these treasured stories and the use of his quick wit and humor that he will be remembered by those who loved him.

He is preceded in death by younger brother Charles “Charlie” Sellers on September 28, 2021, and nephew Chas Sellers on March 15, 2016.

Pinky is survived by his daughter Renee Blakely and husband Scott of Midland, TX; former wife and best friend, Eva Sellers of Albuquerque, NM; step-daughter, Robbin Lewis of Lubbock, TX; step-son Scott Lewis and wife Jessie of Los Lunas, NM; sister, Sue Holt and husband Tom Brandon of Granbury, TX; nephew, John Sellers and wife Tracy of Ft Worth, TX; niece, Jessica Miller and husband Shane of Denver City, TX; niece, Jamie Detten and husband Cory of Richardson TX; grandchildren, Danielle Blakely, Masenn Lewis, Joshua Jakino, Riley Jakino, Olivia Jakino, and McKenna Lewis.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the charity of your choice or to the American Heart Association.
