Anita Reid

January 16, 1942 — September 20, 2020

Hamlin

Beloved mother, Anita Reid, was called home to be with the Lord on September 20, 2020. Graveside service will 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 25, 2020, in Hamlin Memorial Cemetery, under the direction of Adams-Foster-Ray Funeral Home.

Elsie Anita Reid was born near Plainview, TX on January 16, 1942 to Clarence and Cansada Thomas. The youngest of seven children, she spent her youth helping out and playing on the family farm. It's there she developed a love of animals and especially for cats.

After graduating from high school, she moved to Lubbock and attended college at Texas Tech University. At a Baptist retreat, she met the love of her life, Mac Reid. Legend has it, he purposely missed his bus back to the dorm so he could ride with Anita. They married soon after on September 2, 1961 and later made their home in Hamlin TX. There, they started a family and Anita began a career at the Texas Department of Transportation. She worked there for almost 40 years and made several lifelong friendships. In retirement, she focused on family, church, gardening with Mac and baking her legendary coconut pies.

Anita was a dedicated Christian, mother, wife and friend and will be missed dearly. She is survived by her children, Kevin and Rami, son-in-law Andy and her grandson, Wilson who provided her with much laughter. Anita is also survived by nieces and nephews, many of whom regarded her as their "second Mom."
