Virginia (Jenny) White

November 23, 1931 — May 24, 2022

Hamlin

Virginia (Jenny) White went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, May 24, 2022.  She was born on November 23, 1931, in Avoca, Texas, to James Hillard and Johnnie Lucille (Driskill) Easterling.  She was a graduate of Avoca High School, and married C.L White on December 11, 1953.

Jenny worked in candy sales at the variety store in Hamlin, and spent her adult years working for Southwestern Bell and the City of Hamlin, where she retired.  She had a servant’s heart, and could be found volunteering numerous places around Hamlin, including Meals on Wheels and the Women’s Auxiliary at the Hospital.  She would often be found in the kitchen at FBC Hamlin, where she volunteered to cook for any event the church held.  Jenny was also a faithful Sunday school teacher at FBC Hamlin, where she taught the children’s class for more than 60 years. Her faithfulness in serving others was rewarded by her being named Hamlin’s Woman of the Year, in 2004

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bob Easterling and Bill Easterling, and four sisters: Wanda Bounds, Dottie Massey, Mary Joyce Easterling, and Glenna Vivian.

She is survived by her husband, C.L White, of Hamlin; two daughters, Cindy Scott of Arlington, TX, and Linda Sharp (Bodie) of Abilene, and one son, Chad (Jennifer) of Hamlin.  Survivors also include a brother Jack, of Abilene, and five sisters: Ruth Rogers, of Lubbock, Peggy Hollowell, Ruby Blascyk, both of Abilene, Janie Inskeep (Mike) of Mt. Vernon, Washington, and Mattie Elliott (Curtis), of Hawley.

She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren: Jimmy (Jade) Thompson of Huntington, TX, Justin (Jami) Thompson of Paris, TX, Christian (Briana) Beck of Abilene, Caleb (Katy) White of Abilene, and Jackson, Benjamin, Luke, Lillie Kate, and Jedidiah White, all of Hamlin.  Eight great-grandchildren: Asher, Sage, Jebediah, Levi, and Canaan Thompson, and Jace, Julia, and Jared Thompson, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Jenny’s life will be held on Thursday, May 26th, 2022, with visitation at 1pm, and a service at 2pm, at First Baptist Church in Hamlin; officiated by Rev. Russ Ponder.
