Steven Gregory Evans, Steve, passed away on June 8, 2026, at the age of 69. Steve was born on August 5, 1956, in Abilene, Texas.
Steve grew up in Hamlin, Texas, as part of an oil field family, a background that shaped many of his interests throughout his life. He graduated from Hamlin High School and continued his education at McMurry College in Abilene.
Steve enjoyed the people, stories, and traditions of the Hamlin community he called home. The oil field was always a part of Steve’s life, and he carried that connection into both his work and the relationships he built throughout the community. Over the years, Steve owned and operated an insurance agency in Hamlin and later followed his interest in the oil field by running a well-servicing business for several years. His family has been members of the First Baptist Church of Hamlin for over 50 years.
Steve was blessed to share his life with his wife, Barbara, who was truly the light of his life. Their love and companionship brought him great happiness, and when Barbara passed away, a part of that light went with her. Those who loved them take comfort knowing they are together once again.
Steve enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. He loved to cook, tell stories, hunt for arrowheads, and spend time fishing. He and Barbara also enjoyed an occasional trip to a casino, where they could share some laughs, make memories, and enjoy time together.
One of Steve’s greatest joys was being a father to Adam and being a doting grandfather. He dearly loved and adored his three granddaughters, Natalie, Adalynn, and Hannah. They held a very special place in his heart and brought him tremendous happiness.
Those who knew Steve will remember his gift for storytelling, his love of the outdoors, his West Texas spirit, and the friendships he made along the way.
Steve was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Evans; his father, Pinky Evans; and his mother, Margaret Evans, all of Hamlin, Texas.
He is survived by his son, Adam Evans, and Adam’s wife, Amber, of Hamlin, Texas; his three beloved granddaughters, Natalie, Adalynn, and Hannah; his brothers, Chuck Evans and wife, Pat, of Plano, Texas, and Carl Evans and wife, Susan, of Wimberley, Texas. He is also survived by a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will cherish his memory.
Steve’s life will be remembered through the stories he told, the meals he shared, the places he explored, and the love he shared with those closest to him.
