Rosa Gonzalez

Rosa Gonzalez, 82, died surrounded by her, sons, daughters and grandchildren Friday, June 9, 2017 after a long and happy life devoted to her family, church and community.
Rosa was born on January 27th, 1935 in Big Canyon, Oklahoma. At the age of 15 Rosa moved to Hamlin with her parents and family where her parents Jacinto and Margarita Rivera raised their 9 children in the farming community.
In 1950, the Rivera family moved to Hamlin for the lucrative cotton economy where the Gonzalez and Rivera families intersected. Rosa met Lionel Gonzalez and after a two-year courtship wed in September 1955. Together they worked in the farming community and were blessed with 7 children.
Throughout her life Rosa had a passion for raising her children, being a housewife, managing the household budget and being a devout Catholic.
Rosa was preceded in death by her husband Lionel Gonzalez, her parents Jacinto Rivera and Margarita Nunez, her brothers Jacinto Jr., Ricardo, Thomas, her sisters Diamantina Rivera, Mary Castillo, and her son Lionel Jr.
Rosa is survived by, her brothers Doroteo Rivera (Cecil) of Farmersville TX, Reynaldo Rivera of Langgons, Germany and Rolando Rivera of Houston, TX, her children Rene Gonzalez of Riverside CA, Roger Gonzalez and his wife Jan of Waco TX, Irma Rankin and her husband David of Fort Worth, TX, Lucia Kastler and her husband Bill of Dallas TX, Hilda Caballero and her husband Jamie of Fort Worth TX and Eric Gonzalez and wife Dana of Highland Village TX. Her survivors also include her grandchildren Adam Gonzalez, Matthew Gonzalez, Jeremy Gonzalez, Jay Kyle Obenoskey, Jon Kevin Obenoskey, Sandy Wright, David Rankin, Jessica Martinez, Alejandra Martinez, Trevor Caballero, Ezra Caballero, Erica Hipps, Kayla Gonzalez and Payton Veach. Rosa has two great granddaughters Baylee Hipps and Abigail Kreiger and two great grandsons Richie and Virgil Wright.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, June 14th from 6 to 7PM at the Adams-Foster-Ray Funeral Home at 505 N.W. 5th Street in Hamlin, Texas. A Rosary will be held at the same location on Thursday evening June 15th at 7PM. A memorial services will be held Friday at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church on North Hwy 83 in Hamlin, TX at 10am.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers a contribution be made to the "The Lionel B. Gonzalez Barber School Scholarship Fund" held at the Hamlin National Bank. A Scholarship will be awarded to individuals interested in entering Barber or Cosmetology School through the submission of an application through regional high school counselors or regional barber schools encouraging the continued barber services to the region Lionel and Rosa loved.
