Odean Murphree

Odean Murphree, 94, passed away Friday, April 6, 2018 in Arlington. Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at the Hamlin Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow in Hamlin Memorial Cemetery. Visitation is set for Tuesday, April 10, 2018, from 11am to 12pm, at the Hamlin Church of the Nazarene, prior to the funeral services.
Julia Odean Murphree was born July 10, 1923 in Cullman, Alabama, daughter of WH and Bertha (McAnally) Murphree. The family moved to Hamlin when Odean was a year old. She grew up in Hamlin and attended Hamlin schools through high school graduation in 1941. She earned a bachelor's degree in 1945 from Bethany Peniel College (now Southern Nazarene University) in Bethany, Oklahoma and a master's degree from McMurry College (now University) in 1957. She taught school for 35 years, having teaching positions in Henryetta, OK, Hamlin, Tx, and Denison, Tx until retirement in 1981. Odean was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Abilene, a life member of Texas State Teacher's Association, Texas Retired Teachers Association, and the Texas Congress of Parents and Teachers.
Odean moved to Arlington Tx from Abilene in November 2017.
Odean was proceeded in death by her parents, W.H. and Bertha (Mcnally) Murphree ; her Sister, Avaleen and husband Jay Lambdin; and her brother J.O. Murphree.
Odean is survived by her sister-in-law, Jane Murphree; nephews, Mike Murphree and wife Peggy and Bruce Lambdin and wife Beth; niece, Patti Murphree Williams and husband Bobby; great-nieces, Meagan Murphree Mueller and husband Jeremy (their children Molly and Ben), Kaitlyn Amos, Ashley Amos, M'Leah Lambdin; and great-nephew, Jay Murphree and wife Kirsten (their daughter Ivy).
