Marvin L Kirkland

Marvin Kirkland passed away peacefully in Abilene, Texas on June 16, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on September 10, 1944, in Munday, Texas, Marvin exemplified hard work and determination throughout his life.  His career as a driver with Killion Trucking and hauling hay for various farmers showcased his commitment to labor and service. Marvin worked diligently across all his endeavors, earning the respect of his peers and contributing to the local agricultural community.  Marvin was not only known for his strong work ethic but also for his vibrant personality. He had a deep passion for music, often playing the guitar and humming a tune wherever he went. His adventurous spirit shone brightly during a remarkable bicycle trip that took him from Hamlin, Texas to Washington State, then to Ohio and back home again, demonstrating his love for exploration and the open road.  Marvin was a member of the Hamlin Volunteer Fire Department and the Masonic Lodge. His dedication to public service led him to run for the position of Mayor in Hamlin, Texas. 

 Marvin is survived by his children: Charlene Neves, Marvin Lee Kirkland Jr., Linda Ann Rivas, Joey Lee Kirkland, Sherry Burton, Margie Kirkland, Brenda Brockman, Michael Kirkland, Christopher Brian Kirkland and stepdaughter, Renea Kirkland. He married Anita Luna in 1966. He leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will carry his legacy forward. His passing is mourned by family and friends alike.  He was preceded in death by his parents, George W. Kirkland and Mary E. Lofin Kirkland, and four siblings. Marvin was a hardworking individual who found joy in music and adventure. His memory will forever resonate in the hearts of all who knew him. He was loved by all.
