Martha Watts

Martha O’Neal Haught Watts, 88, of Hamlin passed away on January 27, 2024. Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, February 3, 2024 in Hamlin Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service from 12:30 to 1:30 PM, at the Adams-Foster -Ray Funeral Home in Hamlin.

Martha was born May 28, 1935 in Groesbeck, Texas. She was one of five children of parents Connie Edward and Clara (Esslinger) O’Neal. Martha graduated from Aspermont High School in 1953 and was a Coming Home Queen nominee in 2013. She worked in the grocery business for over thirty years and finished her working career at the Hamlin bank. Martha was known as “Mom” not only to her three daughters but also to numerous classmates and friends of the girls and of course all the boys who worked at the grocery store. She was always willing to offer advice, share a laugh, or teach a life lesson. Covid robbed Martha of her health the last three years of her life, but she fought a good fight, kept her faith, and finished her earthly race with her witty demeanor.

Martha is survived by her three daughters, Denice of Amarillo, Stephanie and Johnny Howard of Abilene, and Jodie and Robert Ledesma of Hamlin; grandsons, Chase and Tiffani Phillips of Abilene and Skyler and Taylor Phillips of Flint; great grandson, Mason Phillips of Abilene; brother, Henry and Brenda O’Neal of Euless; and numerous nieces and nephews.
