Margaret Evans

March 29, 2012 — May 19, 2012

Margaret was born on March 29, 1924 in Ringling, Oklahoma to her parents, Dan and Manda Jane Maness. Dan worked for Continental Oil Company and as such moved his family from company town to company town in New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
Margaret was a middle child, her older brother, Leon Maness died in 1942 in Bataan, Philippines during WWII. Her younger brother, D.W. passed away at a very early age.
When the family was living in Hobbs, New Mexico, Margaret came across this hot shot athlete, nick named quotPinkyquot because of his red hair. Charles quotPinkyquot Ewing Evans and Margaret Maness were married in Lovington, New Mexico in 1943. Shortly thereafter Pinky went to the Pacific to serve as a Navy Medic during WWII.
During his absence their first son was born in 1944, Charles quotChuckquot Leon Evans. Upon Pinky39s return from the war, he joined the ranks of all of his relatives, working for Continental Oil Company and as such moved his new family from New Mexico to Electra, Texas where their second son, Carl Dan Evans, was born in 1949. New oil fields meant frequent relocations, and Abilene, Texas was next where the third son, Steven Gregory Evans was born in 1956. The family subsequently moved to Sweetwater, Hamlin, Abilene, again, and finally in 1969 they came home to Hamlin, Texas.
Margaret was a lifelong Baptist and member of the First Baptist Church of Hamlin where she took pride in participating in the choir and teaching her quotchildrenquot at Sunday School for over 40 years. If anyone was in need, Margaret was there to help. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grand and great grandmother. Heaven got a real jewel and a real fighter.
Our memories are of a loving mother whose passions were singing, hunting arrowheads, garage sales, fishing, cooking peach cobblers, cherry pies, fried chicken and blackeyed peas. She was an eternal optimist, which came in handy in raising her three boys. She could also wield a mean willow switch when optimism grew thin.
Margaret was preceded on this journey by her husband, Pinky, who passed in 1994, but she is survived by her sons, Chuck Evans and his wife Pat, of Plano, Texas, Carl Evans and his wife Susan, of Wimberley, Texas and Steve Evans and his wife Barbara and son, Bubba Evans, of Hamlin, Texas. We are indebted to Steve, Barbara and Bubba for being mom39s care takers for the past several years.
Margaret and Pinky also leave behind several grandchildren to cherish her memory: Andy Evans, Emily Bednarz, Amanda Glass, Aaron Evans of Plano, Texas, Sarah Evans of Austin, Texas, and Adam quotBubbaquot Evans of Hamlin, Texas and several great grandchildren, Christian Evans, Brooke Bednarz, Jack Bednarz, Ainsley Grizzle, Emma Grizzle, and Sakura Evans.
