Leona Hawkins

November 23, 1924 — February 13, 2012

HAMLIN LEONA RUSSELL, 87, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 13, 2012, in Abilene. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Jeff Reid officiating. Burial will be in Hamlin Memorial Cemetery, ed by AdamsFosterRay Funeral Home in Hamlin. ation will be 1:00 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.

Born November 23, 1924, in Tuxedo, Leona was a daughter of the late Walter and Shelly Buntin. She attended school in Trent and graduated in 1941. Leona married Leman Creason who was a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army. She was stationed with him initially at Ft. Benning, GA, then to Ft. Smith Arkansas, then to Ft. Sill, Oklahoma till the time of his death in 1960 and returned to Hamlin. During their marriage three sons were born, Walter, Gary and Joe.

Leona married Charles Gardner in 1963 and one daughter was born, Jannie Lynn. Later Leona married Jack Russell in December of 1971. Leona loved the Lord with all her heart and soul and attended church regularly and taught a Sunday school class for awhile until her health started declining. Leona enjoyed cooking, baking, and playing the piano. Her family was one of her greatest joys. Leona loved each of her four children and two grandchildren, Jennifer and Daniel Rister.

Leona is preceded in death by her parents Walter and Shelly Buntin, husband Jack Russell, three sisters
Sharon Buntin, Lola Long, and Loucille Holmes, and seven brothers Edward, Louie, Clifford, Raymond, Roy, Jessie, and Arvol Buntin.

Survivors include three sons and daughterinlaw, Walter and Addie Creason of Abilene, Gary Creason of Hamlin, and Joe Creason of Abilene one daughter and soninlaw, Jannie Lynn and Steve Richter of Sanger two grandchildren, Daniel and Jennifer Rister of Dallas numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the nurses at Northern Oaks and Sears Hospice Care.
