Lavena Smith

Hamlin- Lavena Sue (Maberry) Smith, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2020, in Hamlin.  Funeral service will be Friday, July 31, 2020, at the First Baptist Church of Hamlin at 11:00 am. Visitation will be at 10:00 am, prior to the service. Burial will be in McCaulley Cemetery, directed by Adams-Foster-Ray Funeral Home.

Sue was the daughter of John Frank and Zula Ann Maberry. Born August 7, 1926, she was the youngest of five children. Sue attended McCaulley School and contributed to the community in many ways. She was a school bus driver, substitute teacher, election judge, room mother, church secretary, Sunday school teacher, 4-H leader, cub scout mom, and was an outstanding cook.

Sue married the love of her life, Armond A. Smith, on May 13, 1944 in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. While living in Dallas their first child was born, Eddie E. Smith. Sue and Armond later moved to the McCaulley community and three more children were born, Bobby Dean, Deborah Sue, and Arvinelle. Being the wife of a farmer/brick mason was a challenge. Sue, being a faithful, loving Christian mother, housewife and leader brought joy to her family. Sue was dedicated to her family, friends, and community in all she did.

Sue is survived by four children; son, Eddie and his wife Carol, of Huntsville, Texas, son, Bobby and his wife Connie, of McCaulley, Texas, daughter, Deborah Sue and her husband Norm Pond, of McCaulley, and daughter, Arvinelle and her husband Johnny Pace,of Abernathy, Texas.  Ten grandchildren; Jeff Smith, Jennifer Smith Allison, Cody Smith, Tim Bob Smith, Johnny Smith, Brooke Terrell, Hunter Warren, Matt Pond, Megan Pond, and Jason Weaver. Twenty great grandchildren; Morgan Smith, Marci Smith, Bailey Allison, Brinley Allison, Logan Smith, Lacy Smith, Chaney Smith, Katy Smith, Stran Smith, Hudson Smith, Layne Smith, Katelyn Metcalf, Kaylie Terrell, Kylan Warren, McKennon Warren, Lilly Weaver, Alex Weaver, Skyler Pond, Tinley Pond, and Zane Huck.  One great-great grandchild; Koen Metcalf.

The family suggest that memorial donations be made to the McCaulley Cemetery Fund.
