Jimmy Hastings

January 14, 1950 — February 17, 2017

Hamlin-Jimmy Lee Hastings, 67, passed away Friday, February 17, 2017, at home. Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 20, 2017, in Hamlin Memorial Cemetery. A celebration of life will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 20, 2017, at the First Baptist Church. Visitation will be 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, February 19, 2017, at Adams-Foster-Ray Funeral Home.

Born January 14, 1950, Jimmy Lee was the son of the late Lee and Johnnie Faye (Griffin) Hastings. He graduated from Hamlin High School and received his Associates Degree at Cisco College. He spent several years working on the golf course as a Golf Course Superintendent. He later transitioned into oil field sales and more recently was a pumper for Merit Energy.

Jimmy married Gloria Stalnaker September 5, 1992, in Hamlin. He was an avid Pied Piper fan, and loved to celebrate Hamlin Homecoming each year with the Class of 1968. Jimmy Lee played the drums in high school and college. His college friend, Gary Stewart, even tried to get him to go on the road with him. One of his favorite songs to play on the drums was "Wipe Out". In high school he was very active in all sports, being especially remembered for football. As an adult Jimmy Lee gave his time to the Aspermont and Hamlin Volunteer Fire departments and the Golf Association. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, and time at the lake with family and friends.

Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife Gloria Hastings; one daughter, Emily Hastings; three step-children, Cindy Dubert (Brad), Ann Milam (Doug) and Jimi Coplen (Jerry); one brother, Paul Ray Hastings (Cindy); one sister, Sharon Ford (Spencer); several aunts and uncles: Cecil Griffin (Dale), Joretta Bryan (James), Eula Chapman (Bobby), Juanita Auberry, Bobi Griffin, and Joyce Griffin; numerous step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Kindred Hospice in Abilene or Rescue the Animals.
