Born April 30, 1926, on the Dixon Ranch in Reagan County, Jim was the son of the late W.H. and Octavia Belcher Dixon. He graduated from Reagan County High School on May 17, 1946 and received his Bachelor Degree in Agriculture from Texas Tech University in 1949. Jim married Barbara Anita Moss February 16, 1949, in Brownfield. Jim taught agriculture in Carlton, Morgan Mills, Moran and McCaulley ISDs. He was a farmer and rancher. Jim owned and operated a Dairy Farm in Rockdale and a ranch in Hamilton before moving to Fisher County in 1975. He lived in Hamlin from 19761987 before moving to his farm in Sylvester. In 2013 Jim moved to Merkel. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Merkel and previously a longstanding member of the First Baptist Church in Hamlin. Jim was a member of the Hamlin Masonic Lodge and an avid Texas Tech Red Raider Fan.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, wife Barbara Moss Dixon, two sisters Lucille Dixon and Margaret Dixon Talley and one brother Lynn Dixon.
Survivors include his children, Harvey Dixon of Merkel, Greg Dixon of Lubbock, Tavia Richards and husband, Tim of Abilene, Vivian Roy and husband, David of Hurst, Anita Bird and husband, Steven of Haskell grandchildren, Jeremy Beal, Nicholas Beal, Destiny Bell Ruthardt, Chris Bell, and Adriana Roy and numerous nieces and nephews.
