J. Haley

JB Haley age 105, passed away on Tuesday January 10th, 2023, in Abilene Texas.  A memorial service honoring his life will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2023, 11:00 A.M, at the Rockfield Baseball Field in Hamlin, Texas under the direction of Adams-Foster-Ray Funeral Home.

J.B. was the first born of eight children to Henry and Elzora Haley. JB loved baseball and was well known for his pitching abilities which earned him the nickname “Fireball Haley”. He continued to strike out men until he was in his 70’s. Even in his later years, J.B. coached teams in Hamlin and across the area. Athletes from Hamlin had great respect for Mr. Haley and enjoyed him being at their games and encouraging them. JB will be remembered as a kind, loving, generous human being and a shining light in his community. He loved the life he lived and lived the life he loved.

He was preceded in death by his parents; spouses, Bessie Haley and Vera Haley; three brothers; three sisters; and daughter Dixie Butler.

Surviving family members include daughter, Vera; sons, Odis and David and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
