Geneva Georgia Houghton, a beloved member of the community, has passed away at the age of 96 on September 14, 2023, in Hamlin, Texas. She was born on August 18, 1927, in Oklahoma to Thelmer J and Evelyn May. Geneva was a caring and compassionate person who dedicated her life to helping others.

Throughout her life, Geneva had a nurturing personality and served as a caregiver to many. Her kind spirit extended not only to humans but also to animals. Geneva had a deep love for all creatures and showed great compassion towards them.

In addition to her caregiving role, Geneva was actively involved in teaching children's Sunday school at her local church. She found joy in sharing her faith with young minds and guiding them on their spiritual journey. Geneva's dedication to teaching extended beyond the classroom; she was always there to listen and offer guidance to those who sought her counsel.

Geneva had a creative side and enjoyed activities such as word finds and writing poems. These hobbies allowed her to express herself artistically and find solace in moments of reflection. Moreover, cooking was another passion of Geneva's. She delighted in preparing delicious meals for her loved ones and creating lasting memories around the dinner table.

On September 16, 2023, a graveside service will be held to honor Geneva's life. The service will be 11:00 AM at Hamlin Memorial Cemetery located east of the city of Hamlin, Texas.


Geneva is survived by her three sons: Don Houghton and his wife Dana, Jearl Houghton and his wife Polly, and Herschel Houghton and his wife Kim, six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren who will miss her dearly.

Geneva was preceded in death by her loving husband, Earl Houghton, parents Thelmer (Earl) J and Evelyn May, as well as her brother J.B. May and sister Louise Stewart.


Geneva Georgia Houghton will be remembered as a caring soul, a devoted teacher, and a talented cook. Her legacy of compassion, love, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all those fortunate enough to have known her. May she rest in eternal peace.
