Elizabeth was born July 19, 1923, to Grover and Lillian Terrell in Fisher County, Texas. She graduated from Dowell High School, and married Elbert Payne on December 2, 1945, in Abilene, Texas. Elizabeth worked at the Hamlin High School Cafeteria and as a sales clerk at Heidenheimers. She was a wonderful seamstress, loved to cook and make people eat, and work in her yard. Elizabeth was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hamlin and a lifelong resident of Hamlin Fisher County.

Elizabeth is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Elbert Payne a soninlaw Larry McCoy a son Elbert Ronald Ronnie Payne and two sisters Bertha Allen and Ruth Smith.

She is survived by two children, son Kenneth Payne Cindy of Bryan, and daughter Sandra McCoy of Hamlin grandchildren Angie Gann Ray, Nikki Hughes Scott, Alicia Smith Tim Bob, Lindsay Strand Eric, Eddie Payne, and Bryan Payne and greatgrandchildren Kalicia McCoy, Katy Smith, Stran Smith, Kyler Gann, Kenadee Gann, Cole Hughes, Devin Hughes, Tully Hughes, Connor Payne, Brylee Strand, Hayden Stand, and Haze Strand.
