DWIGHT SIMPSON GRIGGS, 73, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2016, at an Austin care center. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 9, 2016, at Hamlin Memorial Cemetery, directed by Adams-Foster-Ray Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 8, 2016, at the Griggs family home, 444 NW Ave. A in Hamlin.
Born May 18, 1942, in Bridgeport, Texas, Dwight was the son of C. Weldon and Olivia (Simpson) Griggs. He graduated from Hamlin High School, and received a bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University and a master's degree from Texas Tech University. On October 6, 1984, he married the love of his life, Patrice Moore, in Hamlin. Dwight worked for many years at the Hamlin National Bank. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, hiking, and playing tennis. He received an award from the Rotary Club that allowed him to travel to Australia and New Zealand. Dwight was a member of Riverbend Church in Austin, and served Hamlin as a member of the Hospital Board for several years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, C. Weldon and Olivia Griggs; his brother, Dudley Griggs; and numerous beloved family members.
Dwight is survived by his wife of 31 years, Patrice Griggs of Austin; and numerous beloved family members and friends.
