Daniel Scifres

Daniel "Ray" Scifres, 61, lifelong resident of Hamlin died in his home on Saturday September 9, 2017. Ray was born in Hamlin on July 27,1956 to Dorothy and the late Curtis Scifres. Ray attended Hamlin schools and graduated from Hamlin High School in 1974. He loved all sports and was a life long fan and supporter of the Hamlin Pied Pipers. Some of the things he enjoyed in past years were umpiring high school and little league baseball, and "running the chains" at Pied Piper football games. Ray worked for National Gypsum in Rotan for 35 years. He loved his children and grandchildren more than anything. Ray had three children and five grandchildren, as well as many "bonus" children and grandchildren that lovingly called him Daddy Ray and PawPaw Ray. Ray was preceded in death by his father Curtis Scifres. Ray is survived by his mother Dorothy Scifres of Hamlin, his brother Claude and wife of Pampa, his sister Cheryl and husband of Hawley, his many nieces and nephews, and his children Michael and Whitney Scifres Jackson, Avery, and Grayson of Auburn, AL, Eric and Amanda Scifres of Asheville, NC, and April and David Montgomery Mason and Zachary of Slapout, AL, and his best friend Carla Adair of Big Spring. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday at the Hamlin Church of Christ fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers his children request that donations be made to the Pied Piper Booster Club.
