C.D. Herron

Hamlin C.D. Monk Herron, 92, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013, in Abilene. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at the McCaulley Methodist Church with burial in McCaulley Cemetery under the ion of AdamsFosterRay Funeral Home. ation will be 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at the funeral home.

Born September 11, 1920, in Fisher County, C.D. was a son of the late Med and Beulah Jeffrey Herron. He married Willie Edward Bill Gibson at Sylvester on September 3, 1938 and they were married over seventyone years until she passed away in 2010. They lived in Shallowater, Texas where he and his father owned the Texaco Gas Station. He was also an insurance agent and was elected mayor. As mayor of Shallowater, C.D. was very instrumental in incorporating the town. C.D. moved back to Fisher County in 1955 and began farming at Sylvester and selling Farmers Union Insurance at Rotan. He loved playing dominos, SkipBo, and going fishing. C.D. was a member of the McCaulley Methodist Church, a Thirtysecond Degree Mason, a Boy Scout Leader, a 4H Leader and superintendent of the Angus Show for the West Texas Fair. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, two brothers J.F. Herron and Roy Herron, soninlaw David Hennington, and brotherinlaw Robert Morton.

C.D. is survived by his son and daughterinlaw, Mike and Roxie Herron of Sylvester three daughters and two sonsinlaw, Wanda Hennington of San Marcos, Carolyn and Mel Marshall of Kyle, and Sandra and Don Pullig of Roby ten grandchildren twentythree greatgrandchildren seven greatgreatgrandchildren two sisters and a brotherinlaw, Doris Morton, and Meddie and Don Rollins and a sisterinlaw, Estelle Self.
