Billy Jones

Billy Gail (B.G.) Jones was called home to his heavenly Father on June 8, 2019, after a brief illness.
He was born to Richard Melvin Jones and Hettie Carter Jones on July 10, 1927, in Sagerton, Jones County, Texas.

He was in the Navy during World War II, and after coming home from the war, he married Doris Alene Bowman on December 24, 1947, in Hamlin, TX, after which they lived in Abilene until moving to Wichita Falls. He was called back up from the reserves for the Korean War. After the Korean War, he became a Department of Public Safety Highway Patrolman (trooper) in 1951. He and his growing family lived in Wichita Falls, Seymour, Sweetwater, and Sherman where he retired after 21 years. His second career move was with the Bell County District Attorney's office as a professional criminal investigator for 20 years. He and his wife, Doris, were longtime residents of Temple, founded Century 21 Accent (Accent Real Estate Services). He was a longtime member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Temple.

Bill received his Associates in Applied Science from Central Texas College, his Bachelor of Science Degree and Master of Criminal Justice Degree from American Technological University, and also completed the FBI National Academy course given by the Dept. of Justice at Quantico, Va. He became an instructor of Criminal Justice at CTC sharing his vast knowledge and love of law enforcement with newcomers to the profession. Honors he received included Texas District & County Attorney Association (TDCAA) Lifetime member; Charter President Omega Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma Honor Fraternity; and Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and College.

Bill is survived by three sons: Bill L Jones and wife Susan of Belton, TX; Randy L Jones and wife Barbara of Converse, TX; and Jimmy D Jones and wife Cathy of Katy, TX; 4 grandsons, 2 granddaughters and a number of great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sister-in-law Jesydean Tabb and brother-in-law Monroe Tabb of McCaulley, TX, as well as sister-in-law Elizabeth Jones of Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by wife Doris on October 2, 1999; his parents and two brothers, Doyle and Rex Jones.

His wishes were to be cremated and buried beside his beloved Doris at the Hamlin Memorial Cemetery in Hamlin Texas. Tentatively, pending arrangements, a graveside service is set for Saturday, June 22, 2019, at 11:00 AM.
