She was an outstanding and beloved employee at every job she ever had there. Bertie worked for the First National Bank for 15 years and another 15 years at The State Hospital. She joined Mt. Bethel Baptist Church where she would sing for the Lord. In 1990 she took a leap of faith and moved to Austin, Texas where she would live 28 years and start the next chapters of her life. She would be employed by CPC Capital Hospital, then on to The City of Austin and Hutto School districts where she would eventually retire.
